Flat Bridge

Just a short way upstream from last week's bridge over Gower Hey Brook is this little flat bridge.

Shadows over a bridge

Last week I showed you a bridge over Gower Hey Brook and the steps that lead to King George Road.

I went back there last week, crossed the bridge, climbed a few steps and took this looking down on the bridge with the sun casting the shadows of trees across it.

For the original wider and coloured version see Geograph.

For more shadows visit Hey Harriet.

For more bridges visit San Francisco Bay Daily Photo.

Bridge over Gower Hey Brook

Come from Osborne Road down the cobbled road I showed you on Friday and you will reach Gower Hey Brook.

Cross it on this little wooden bridge and climb the steps up to King George Road.

Hyde Holidays: Day Trip to Chester

Whilst I am away on holiday, Rune from Visual Norway is minding the blog for me. I have scheduled some special posts for the period taking readers on day trips to the West.

Our final day trip destination is Chester whose city streets are always very busy.

Eastgate clock is an icon of Chester overlooking the throngs below.

Anyone fancy a trip on the river?

Hyde Holidays: Day Trip to Liverpool

Whilst I am away on holiday, Rune from Visual Norway is minding the blog for me. I have scheduled some special posts for the period taking readers on day trips to the West.

South from Southport is the city of Liverpool. This shot of the iconic liver birds was taken from the Albert Dock on a misty Sunday afternoon in 2006.

The river Mersey starts its life a few miles from Hyde at the confluence of the Tame and Goyt under the motorway in Stockport.

It ends here as it flows into the Irish Sea.

Just South of the city the name Bill Shankly has been engraved on a flagstone. Quite why I do not know. This is part of the Trans Pennine Trail that goes from Southport through Liverpool and Hyde to Hull and Hornsea on the East coast.

Six Day Walk (4):
Pipeline over Clough Fold

This is the fourth post of some photographs of a walk I took some weeks ago. I'm sharing this walk with you over six days.

We started by walking down steps to Church Brow and took the path by Gower Bank which leads to the junction of Clough Fold Road and Fawley Avenue.

We then followed a footpath between fences.

We are now in a little wooded valley through which a thin stream weaves its way. A pipeline bridges the valley on brick piers. What it carries I have no idea.

Brook in the Woods

Gower Hey Brook flowing through Gower Hey Woods.

On the left is the footpath junction I showed you last October from the opposite direction.

Then the trees were still full of leaves.

Clarendon Street Viaduct

The Viaduct on Clarendon Street was erected in 1904 bridging the valley of Godley Brook.

Until recently it wasn't possible to lean over the edge of the parapet to view these arches. The ground was filled with industrial machinery and fenced off, but has now been cleared.

From the other side of the road you can look over on to factory roofs.

A faded stone on the side of the viaduct commemorates its construction - view it on Hyde DP Xtra.

The Wooded Dell in Hyde Park

Last week I showed you Hyde Park Bridge and on Hyde DP Xtra, upstream of the bridge.

This is a little bit further upstream and I've converted it into a pencil drawing. The original photograph can be seen on Geograph.

You can see a closer view of the end of this section on Hyde DP Xtra.

Gower Hey Brook Culvert September

This is where Gower Hey Brook disappears into a culvert before emerging on the far side of Dowson Road.

See how it looked in June.

Godley Brook, September 2009

Here is my latest view of Godley Brook down by the ABC Wax Factory on Hoviley Street.

Compare it with the view in March 2009.

Spot the differences.

Gower Hey Brook Culvert

Somewhere close to the duckboards in Gower Hey Woods, the brook disappears under a culvert.

It will emerge somewhere beyond the footpath from Gower Road to Church View.

Flowing Onwards

After the complicated pipework near the textile mills, Godley Brook continues its journey.

Regular readers will be aware that I've moved recently. It took a few weeks to get the phone line installed and some days more before my internet connection was restored.

Meanwhile Rune with assistance from Tom have kept things moving along on a daily basis and I owe them tremendous thanks. I've been peeking in from time to time, via library access and have enjoyed reading the lovely comments on the posts.

It will take me some time to get up to steam and visit other blogs, but like the little river, I'm flowing again.

Walking through Gower Hey Wood

Last August I showed you one of the entrances to Gower Hey Wood.

Go over the style and you will find steps leading down into the valley and duck boards laid across the muddy bottom.

Further on you meet Gower Hey Brook.

A network of footpaths will take you in various directions.

A Gray Day on Godley Brook

I showed you this section of Godley Brook past the ABC Wax factory back in May 2007.

The bullrushes are still there but have been joined, alas, by a discarded shopping trolley.

Werneth Pool

Just below Green Lane Pool is Werneth Pool. I don't know if these are the correct names as they aren't marked on any maps I've looked at.

It was taken from the same spot as (and within ten minutes of) my skywatch photograph of 6th February 2009.

How deep they actually are, I wouldn't know, but such bodies of water as these don't have to be very deep to be dangerous!
