The latest occupant of the premises on the corner of Market Street and Croft Street is
Inspired Jewellery who seem to have been in business for quite some time and have now moved to these larger premises.
It used to be the offices of an Estate Agent but that closed down recently. Mind you there are two estate agents on Market Street on the other side past Croft Street and another two lower down in the same block below the florists.

The shop on Market Place between
Oakland Furnishers and the
Jolly Carter has been home to many short-lived businesses in the last few years.
It is re-opening soon as
Wild's Cards a business that is re-locating from inside Clarendon Mall.

Another view from the multi-storey car park looking past John Grundy House and the entrance to Clarendon Mall.
On the skyline is the tower of St George's.
The Library on Union Street can be seen behind the Iceland frozen foods store.

Just moved into the premises vacated by Aldi when they moved down the road is Pound Empire Xtra.
Despite taking over the old Woolworth's store, £Stretcher have still kept open their other shop here, next to B&Q.

Look closely behind the white-washed walls of Byle's bedding showroom on Russell Street and you will find visible reminders of bricked up doors and windows stemming from the time when this was a redbrick built Victorian factory, similar to the ones still in use on
Great Norbury Street.

Under the tarmac of Clarendon Place lie the cobblestones of
Hoviley Brow.

When I showed you this shop back in
July 2008 it was closed.
But now it is open.
It is a Grade II listed building and you can read its official description on
Old Hyde.

I took this photo when I was walking down Market Street to watch the
switching on of the Christmas lights.
The pizza place would have been open for an hour or so and stay open until after midnight. The newsagents next door would have been open from early morning and be closing after the evening rush hour.
In the mile from the top of Market Street to the
shops on Manchester Road there must be more than a couple of dozen different takeaway food shops. Whether it is pizza, kebabs, fish and chips, burgers, curry, fried chicken, Indian, Chinese or whatever is your fancy, there is no excuse to go hungry in Hyde.
On a day of heavy rain the Ayesha Saree Emporium on Chapel Street is reflected in a huge puddle.

Quadrant House is an office block at the end of Reynard Street.
It used to be the home of the AMI group before they moved to
Phoenix House.
Currently it is occupied by the Beacon Association, a Christian charity. It is an accessible charity shop and they brew a mean cup of tea for 50p.

The offices and showroom of Plastic Fantastic is on the corner of Manchester Road and Clark Way.
This was formerly the Red Lion. When I first showed it here in
September 2007 the pub was open for business as usual, but by
August 2009 it had closed.
At least it has found a new use and not been demolished.

A week before Halloween these pumpkins outside the
Strawberry Garden were priced at £2.99.
The ones that are left are probably a bit cheaper than that now.
Reflections in the rain on Borough Arcade.
On the left goods are still laid out on display outside the stationers.
On the right is Stacey's Hairdressers.
See it from the opposite direction on
Hyde DP Xtra.

This group of shops on Manchester Road at the edge of town presently consists of a furniture/bedding shop, a domestic appliances shop, a pizza takeaway, an Indian restaurant/takeaway and Kwikfit.

There was a scarecrow festival in Hyde a few weeks ago.
I've already shown you the
scarecrow outside Greggs and Abbey Gallery's
Mona Lisa.
Perhaps the scariest was the live one hovering in the entrance to the Cancer Research charity shop.
You'll find another two scarecrows on
Hyde DP Xtra.

Remember the
Scarecrow at Greggs?
This scarecrow was in the window of the Abbey Gallery on Market Street as part of the same festival.

Another cut-price clothes store opened recently in Clarendon Mall.
It replaces
Mamps which closed down some months ago.
