The Red Lion (a pub/public house/drinking establishment -- for the benefit of readers in countries that do not have such premises) in Hyde stands at the corner of Manchester Road and Clark Way.
When I last published a picture of the White Lion, someone said
Why is this building called "White Lion?" Lions-animals are most likely brown and not even red alsoI tried doing some research but didn't get any definitive answer. It would seem to be all tied up with heraldry, symbolism and 14th century politics.
Here are a few more Red Lions I found on some blogs:

Hi Gerald, A pub that I have visited in the past, but now finds itself out of the main area of pubs in Hyde. I will try to find out a bit more about it and come back to you on this.
Hi Gerald, thanks for stopping by my place.
I will be staying at a Red Lion Inn in Salem Oregon next week. It doesn't have the character of your Red Lion though and they for sure won't be serving ale :)
nice work
I think most towns in the UK have either a White or Red Lion. Perhaps we could have a mini theme day, where bloggers put on a photo of their local red/white lion pub
Thanks for the add!!! I added you too - I'm looking forward to hearing about the UK each day! (it's got to be more interesting than Illinois!) Have a great weekend!
Maggie, I'm sure we would find Illinois interesting! I am interested in this blog because it is my home town and I now live 250 miles away and wish I didn't.
I have to admit it's one of the pubs I have been in too.
Yep Red Lion is indeed a very common pub name in the UK - I can think of several within my area alone
Whats it like inside though? Roaring fires, real ale and dominoes? Heaven!
Hi Gerald, just looking through my local phonebook & there are 6 Red Lions & 4 White Lions in Nottinghamshire as a whole. The best name I came across what The Man In Space. But I think they have changed the name. Which was a shame. The best one I can find now is the Flying Bedstead at Hucknall. As a blogging project I might try and photograph every pub in the city centre.
Years ago when I lived in Kansas City, Missouri, I frequented a bar called The Blarney Stone. I even took my mother there when she came up to visit from Mississippi. We ate and then shot pool; she bounced the cue ball completely off the table. We still laugh about that! Thanks for reviving the memories.
Thanks for visiting my blog Portland (OR) Daily Photo.
By the way, if your wife discovers Powells some day, you could each get a map of Powells and mark a spot to meet hours and hours later. It's a great map, easy to follow.
We have a pub called "The Red Horse". I'm not sure why they called it that either. Maybe someone just thought the name was catchy.
