The view from the top of the
multi-storey car park across the roof of the Clarendon Shopping Centre towards the Town Hall.

This is the last of six photographs taken at the
switching on of the Christmas lights outside Hyde Town Hall.
On the right can be seen the stage built across Market Street. On the left are the market stalls doing good trade with the gathered crowd.
It was a cold evening and I'd seen enough so I went off to catch a bus before the lights were actually switched on.
As likely as not though I'll be down again before the year is over for a less crowded look.

This is the fifth of six photographs taken at the
switching on of the Christmas lights outside Hyde Town Hall.
The area in front of the Town Hall was cordoned off and only people involved in the event were allowed through.
Lady Gonegaga had just finished her act and Mossley Brass Band were now entertaining the crowd. The lights from the stage cast shadows around the
Hyde Seal.

This is the fourth of six photographs taken at the
switching on of the Christmas lights outside Hyde Town Hall.
Although the actual Christmas lights had not yet been switched on, there were plenty of lights illuminating the area and being reflected in this barrage of balloons.

This the second of six photographs from the
switching on of the Christmas lights outside the Town Hall.
If I heard correctly the singer on stage is called
Lady Gonegaga and she was entertaining the crowd with some loud rock music. I could hear her from above Union Street as I was making my way down Market Street.
Her act was followed by Mossley Brass Band.

This is the first of six photographs taken at the Switching on of the Christmas Lights outside Hyde Town Hall.
Market Street was closed off and a stage had been erected across it. The gathered crowd was being entertained by a variety of acts including a rock singer, a brass band and a children's choir.
The lights had been erected back in
September.

A couple of weeks ago some of the cast of Cinderella were casting shadows across Hyde Market.
Casey-Lee Jolleys is Cinderella; Lee Ottway is Prince Charming, Bruce Jones is Doc Hardup and Caroline Hacking is the Fairy. They will be playing at Hyde Town Hall from December 3rd to January 2nd.

Hey Harriet.

A week before Halloween these pumpkins outside the
Strawberry Garden were priced at £2.99.
The ones that are left are probably a bit cheaper than that now.

If all has gone well we should be home again now so here is a typical shot of Greenfield Street on a rainy day.
On the left is the side of the Town Hall. Ahead is the Asda supermarket.
Yesterday afternoon workmen were busy putting up the Christmas decorations on the Town Hall and along Market Street.

Above the entrance to the Clarendon Shopping Centre from the market is an Indian restaurant called
Garlic.
The dome of Hyde Town Hall is here reflected in the restaurant's window.

The typical British Summer: two fine days and a thunderstorm!
When the heavy rain hit Hyde last Saturday the market traders hardly had time to cover their wares.
I took a shot of the Town Hall reflected in the waters across the market ground.

The Chartist Statue by Stephen Broadbent, unveiled outside Hyde Town Hall on 28th November 2002, commemorates and celebrates the achievements of the Chartists.
For more information about this follow the links on my earlier post for
19th October 2009.
At the end of March someone had tied a bunch of balloons around the hand of one of the figures.

Among the pretty spring flowers in the window boxes at Hyde Town Hall are some dwarf daffodils.

Today is the twelfth day of Christmas and the time has come to take down the decorations.
On
Christmas Day I showed you the Town Hall with all the lights lit up.
So now here is how it looked the Saturday after
New Year with the tree covered in freshly fallen snow.
You can see the top of the Town Hall on
Hyde DP Xtra or the whole view on

Not New Year's Day but the first Saturday in January around 9.45 a.m. Hyde Market is on the left and the Town Hall is on the right.
Overnight there had been a sharp frost and fresh snow started falling around 8.30 a.m. so by the time people went out to start shopping even the main roads were affected. The snow had stopped briefly which was when I took this and some other photographs. It soon started snowing again though and continued most of the day.
By lunch time the gritters had been out, the main roads were passable and the market ground was awash with salty slush.
This photograph looking up Market Street was taken from the middle of the road by the bollard you can see in the photograph looking down Market Street which can be found on
Hyde DP Xtra.

Hyde Town Hall is lit up for Christmas, and even the
Hyde Seal is illuminated.
I wish a merry Christmas to all my readers and would like to remind you that there is still time to vote for the
Best of Hyde 2009 photograph of the year.
