Follow your dreams

Follow Your Dreams is a charity that sponsors youngesters with learning difficulties in sport and the arts.

They are regular visitors to the Clarendon Centre. On a previous visit my son Craig met up with Greg Silvester who in 2000, carried the torch for Great Britain to the Olympics in Sydney - hi Sally and Nathalie.

The 2007 World Special Olympics will be held in Shanghai

Mottram Road

Here we have Mottram Road.

At one end of this block is Massey's Funeral Directors. At the other end is the Sportsman Inn, followed by the exit from Morrison's supermarket at the traffic lights opposite the entrance to Lumn Road.

Zion Congregational Church

The original Zion Congregational Church on Peel Street was built in 1847.

It was a gaunt draughty building typical of the period. It was demolished a few years ago and in its place was built two houses, a new church and there was still space left over for a carpark.

A regretable sign of the times is the need for the main door to the church to have steel shutters.

Victorian Christmas Fair

Here is where you will find us today.

Instead of just the usual tea and toast this morning, we expect to be tucking into bacon butties or turkey sarnies followed by mince pies!

May The Green Force Be With You

I've previously posted a picture of a large roadsweeper.

The other day I spotted this smaller monster parked on Greenfield Street.

Blue Lamp

There was a photo of a blue lamp on Taunton DP recently.

That was an old one. This is fairly new. I'm not sure how long it has been there but I only spotted it a few days ago. It is not, as you might expect, on the side of the old Police Station as that is now a carpark. Nor is it on the side of the new one as that is out of town. It is on the side of the Town Hall. It refers not to the regular police but to the team of Patrollers, who, to quote the council,
are patrolling the streets of Tameside in response to public demands to bring higher levels of safety and security to the streets of Tameside.

Godley Art Group

Clarendon Shopping Centre often plays host to exhibitions by local societies.

The latest was by Godley Art Group, a mixed ability group who meet every Wednesday at St. John's Church Hall in Godley.

From the waist down

The forthcoming Daily Photo Theme for December 1st is "from the waist down". Around 50 or so sites will be taking part. How everyone will interpret the theme remains to be seen. I've chosen my photo for the theme day so today am presenting this picture which was a contender and posting it as a taster.

These people kinda got into the picture I was taking earlier this year of a charity stall on the market.

Rumble-strip

Rumble-strips like this at the end of suburban estate roads are supposed to be a traffic-calming measure.

At least it is better than leaving potholes in the road.

Strawberry Garden

Until recently this greengrocers in a prominent position in the centre of Hyde was a family concern and always known as Curleys - not a reference to their lettuces!

It closed briefly and has now reopened under the name Strawberry Garden.

Christmas Cards for Sale

Here is a stack of hand-made cards for sale at a recent Christmas Fair held in the Town Hall on behalf of Flowery Field Church.

There will be lots of such fairs held in schools and churches in the run up to Christmas.

Recycle your shoes

Kaa at Vantaa DP is running a theme on recycling.

In Hyde we have recycling bins for shoes among the ones in Asda's carpark. You can choose whether to support the Salvation Army or the Variety Club of GB.

As I've posted before, outside the house we have three lots of wheelie-bins although some people have four.

Dowson Road Junction

These traffic lights are at the junction of Market Steet and Dowson Road.

The picture was taken from quite close to the shop that opened up as a Fireworks shop. Now it is all shuttered-up again.

Towards the Pennines

This is a view from Mottram Old Road over the roof of Alder Community High School towards Hattersley.

You can just see the tower of St. Michaels & All Angels. Beyond that is the Longdendale Valley, the Pennines and the Peak District National Park.

Painted footprints

These blue and yellow footprints appeared on our local pavements a few months ago. It seems to be the same type of paint that is used for double-yellow lines.

I would assume they mark some kind of walking trail. They can be found on Richmond Hill and may lead towards Werneth Low but I've not yet found out any proper information about them.

Crow on Roof

I'm still a bit short of new photographs, so here is another oldie.

This shows a crow on the roof of the house across the street.

After the Fireworks

One of the problems of letting off fireworks on the glorious 5th November is that the rockets don't land in your own back yard.

This is just a few of the remnants that ended up in our backyard. Amid all the explosions we could hear these plastic bullets hitting the house.

My camera is presently out of action, so I don't have many new images to post.

Here is another photo from the Streets Ahead Festival in 2001.

Elvis is alive!

My camera is presently out of action, so I don't have many new images to post.

Also I haven't been able to upload any pictures direct into blogger. So here is an old photo from my website. It is from a set taken during the Streets Ahead Festival in 2001.

Fireworks For Sale

The Daily Photo theme for November 1st is "something that's about to disappear".

In the case of the shop here, I hope that is indeed the case. The business that used to rent this property left earlier this year. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that the shop had re-opened selling fireworks. Hopefully, come November 5th it will be gone again.
