Bowling Green Street

When I posted a picture of a bowling green in October as part of a quiz, several people correctly guessed it was in Hyde Park, but one correspondent suggested it was "the last remaining bowling green in Hyde. Funnily enough, this is on Bowling Green Street."

I had to look it up on the A-Z but located it and some weeks ago I had a walk up there.

I cannot show you the actual green as it is behind the clubhouse which was securely locked up.

The green would have been fun, but these are good shots, too. I am back in a new daily photo persona from my new home--Islamorada in the Keys. Hope you can stop by. --gigi

This looks to me like a forgotten train station here in the states. I love these old brick buildings, they withstand time

So, call me ignorant, but what's a "bowling green"?

Is it still in use? It would be fun to get some shots of bowlers on the green.

When I was in Witney-Hartley the cabbie pointed out the oldest continuously used cricket field in England.

The moody camera settings of that clubhouse photograph evoke the ghosts of bowlers past.

Looks like an interesting area to snoop around with a camera.

The index on my AA street guide for Manchester also has a Bowlinggreen Street in Heywood, North of Manchester, but I couldnt find it on the map. Found yours in Hyde.
Along with some other maps, I keep the Manchester street map on the book shelf by my chair in the living room.

Bowling Green is also a popular midlands road term. Wonder why?

My borrowed laptop will only use safari and is a law unto it's self.

For Saretta and those too scared to ask -- a bowling green is where people play the game of "bowls" - try http://www.tradgames.org.uk/games/Bowls.htm for information.

BG St in Heywood is near the town centre.
