Tunnel at Hyde North

This short tunnel at the end of Junction Road goes under two railway lines and comes out onto Johnson Brook Road.

Steps on the right lead up to Hyde North Station, on the line from Marple and Romily to Manchester.

The line from Glossop via Flowery Field also crosses over this tunnel before joining the line from Marple.

I really like the angle you took this photo at, Gerald. I like the you can see the curve in the tunnel and the end on the other side.

That was a narrow tunnel - can two cars pass, or is it only for pedestrians? I bet they can hear the trains very well beneath!

I'm not certain if it is wide enough for two cars to pass inside the tunnel but it is for vehicles. The road on the other side is very cobbled and not smooth. I'll be posting a view from the opposite direction probably next Monday so then you can see it.

Great idea for bridging. A tunnel instead of a standard bridge over water.

Job well done.

My bridge is built.
Come visit,

A dual purpose construction that actually works in practise. I am
impressed. Into teresting little tunnel. Light at the end of a very short tunnel appeals.
