Another Dead Pub

At one time the Church Inn on Market Street was a popular venue.

Just over a year ago it changed its name to Tylers, but it wasn't open for very long. Now it seems it is being auctioned off in a couple of weeks time. It is expected to go for around £210,000.

What is the explanation for its sudden demise? It seemed to be a successful establishment in 2006...

are you going to take over it?

your blog URL is already printed on the wall! haha...

This is a very worrying trend - especially around Tameside and North Manchester.
I'm no help to them these days as I prefer a bottle of Sauvignon from my fridge.

This was a great pub at one time.... it had one of the best vaults going. Cards were played and dominoes. Mondayafternoon was very busy as half the local building trade would down tools at midday on a Monday and drink all day. Tea time opening was must... jobs would be swopped and work given to other tradesmen. The landlord would let you drink free until pay day. He made more that way.
It was a drinkers pub back then in the 1970s. It served one if not the best pint of Boddingtons beer around. That was of course the Boddingtons of old, brewed and bottled in Manchester.
I see this now and feel a deep sadness that this kind of pub is dying out. Towns like Hyde need this type of Pub, inthe 1980s in bought the shop next door and extended, in got a bit trendy as well concidering what the pub used to be known for. Night time trade was more catered for and it attracted a completely different crowd. It needed to have doormen on at the weekend to keep order... by then the writing was on the wall for this pub. As with most building now on Hyde lane... it will become somewhere to eat spicey food or sell cheap shoddy goods at knock down prices.

les pubs ferment et c'est bien triste. A Evry le seul pub qui restait a ferme ces portes aussi (amusant, une semaine après mon post que j'avais fait sur lui)
Pubs closed, and it is very sad. A Evry the only pub, which has remained strong as these doors (fun, a week after my post that I had made upon him)

I used to drink in a wonderful place; everybody liked it.
It's all gutted now. I have no idea what happened to the place!

I understand that cafes in France are closing and disappearing in large numbers. Does the same trend apply to pubs?

yes it would be a good idea for you to open it up again!

The Pub was populated by a lot of teenagers in more recent years and it was not uncommon to see trouble there on Friday and Saturday Nights. The Pub re opened for a few weeks under the name Tylers, however had all its windows smashed one night and never reopened again. One interesing thing is that one of the original stained glass bar panels taken from this pub many years ago was still in situ at the Lantern Pike pub near Hayfield in Derbyshire, not sure if this is still the case though !!

i know the girl who had this pub and she was forced out buy local teenagers because she wouldn't serve them so they threw bricks at the windows. the previous owners let the kids drink there (im not being patronizing calling them kids they where very young)
