Demolition of Caxton Works
I first became aware of the Caxton Works in February 2008 when I took a walk down Mary Street and photographed the Door to Caxton Works and the Top of Caxton Works
Although in a sorry state it had recently been in use by a number of businesses but by October 2008 when I posted Sky over Edward Street it had been abandoned.
Early in July I was not surpised to see some action at Caxton Works.
Here now is the scene last Monday.
Six more photos from that day are on Hyde DP Xtra

It seems they demolish something everywhere these days. I hope they put up something worthwhile again.
Why they couldn't have converted the shell I don't know. Caxton Mill is (was) quite an attractive building.
Bit shortsighted of the planners, but a walk around Hyde shows that this isn't a recent phenomenon.
It had its day then? A shame.
I'm very saddened by this sight Gerald... that building had such promise.. the brickwork was very good and the whole building was very decorative. Do you know anything about it's past?.. I will try to find out what I can .
