Cold Busker

On the last Saturday of 2008 the temperature barely crept above freezing.

On the bench outside the Cotton Bale in the Market Place, this busker played his accordion as shoppers hurried for warmth inside somewhere/anywhere.

I used to have one of those.

Once, while shopping at Asda's, I left it on the back seat of my car, I was only gone a few minutes but when I got back, sure enough, my back window was smashed and upon peering inside, yeah, you guessed it, there two accordions on the back seat.

Love that joke! I've never seen an accordian player in public playing for donations.

the last weekend in 2008 was also very cold in hania - still, it's sad to see someone braving the elements in this way - i wodner if people gave him some money because they felt sorry for him

Brrrr.
No Gloves.
I hope he collected some deserved cash.

Must say, he looks as if he's from Eastern Europe, so will be: a) oblivious to the anti-accordion jokes; b) accustomed to real cold.

My cousin sold a piano for an accordion. May aunt was not pleased about the wasted piano lessons. I wonder what he was playing. In France, "Those were the days" has to be the most popular tune of choice. I hope he got enough for waRmer clothing and plenty of hot drinks. He's welcome here anytime, by me, possibly not the locals.

He looks like a jovial person there

Some musicians will do almost anything to keep playing. Bless him.

It's a hard way to make money! But I love their music.

We have a guitar player busker outside our supermarket who also plays in the cold, he must make money because I have seen him using his mobile phone, I bet he also has a mercedes around the corner.

"Busker." An excellent word that we Americans don't use. We loosely refer to street entertainers as 'beggers,' but that is not a totally accurate description. I only find the word in one of my three dictionaries, and not at all in my thesaurus. Thanks for the education.

Wonder if he was playing Foreigner's cold as Ice?

The question is was he any good? Were the people hurrying indoors to avoid the music?!

Poor guy, he couldn't have made much tips in the cold. Should've considered an indoor spot.

That's a good picture - I hope he got paid well for his day's work. Melancholy Man, yes most of the accordion players I've seen busking in the UK are eastern Europeans.

Actually the best ever busker I ever heard was an accordion player, I practically emptied my purse into his case, it was breathtaking (Bach's D minor toccata and fugue he was playing, and if I hadn't seen him with my own eyes I'd have sworn it was a church organ I was hearing, it was an incredible sound!).
