Push Bar to Open
As I reported recently on here and Old Hyde, as part of Heritage Open Days 2007, the Theatre Royal was open yesterday and is again today.
This picture taken yesterday gives an idea of the state of the inside of the theatre. But it is not all doom and gloom. There is a new website now for Hyde Theatre Royal Onward, the company set up to save this historic theatre for the town.
The basic structure of the building is sound and although a lot of work will be needed, it is not impossible.
Photographs from the 2006 Open Day can be found at http://www.geraldengland.co.uk/gx/royal.htm and are better than any of the ones I took yesterday.

Gerald, you honor me. Thank you for the Power to Schmooze award. I will wear it proudly on my blog.
I once thought to be an actress or a singer on stage. It was an interesting idea for about two years of my young adulthood. Just think, I might have walked through doors just like those.
Gerald, eventhough I have a fear of heights and suffer from motion sickness, I absolutely love this photo. It helped that I'm wearing my Seaband motion sickness bracelets at this moment because otherwise I'd have felt as if I were falling down the stairs. (I've had to wear them all day today because my head and ears are stuffy, making me more susceptible than usual.) Thanks for taking it at this perspective. I'm curious, though, about what's at the top of the stairs.
lynette At the top of the steps is the theatre -- see more at http://www.geraldengland.co.uk/gx/royal.htm
I don't know why but I really want to push that door :)
Thank you again for the award.
I must have just missed you yeserday Gerald, I had trouble with my camera as soon as I got in there, yet it was fine again once outside.
I have walked down those stairs many a time and once or twice even push that bar to open that very door. Many moons ago that was.
You picked up the right picture for the Open Day.
I went back on Saturday morning and took a few more pictures which I have added to the ones of last year on my website.
