Breakfast

This month's CDPB theme is "typical breakfast". Here is what they offer at Morrison's supermarket. An English breakast traditionally consists of bacon & egg with sundry extras such as baked beans, sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms, black pudding, fried bread. It is usually preceeded by cereal and/or fruit juice and followed by toast, all washed down with a nice pot of tea. It is enough to last most people for the whole of the day.

At home we regularly just have fruit juice and cereal (sometimes porridge). We do have bacon and egg once a week on Wednesdays.

Lots of cafés serve breakfast until about 11.30am whilst others do an "all-day breakfast". If we are out together, my wife and I will often split a single all-day-breakfast between us.

The backed beans, shown in your photo, are the only thing out of the ordinary from breakfast severed everyday across the US. That and the white toast. Wheat is much more popular.

Like you my normal breakfast is more heart friendly ... Oatmeal and orange juice.

A FULL breakfast - as they say, unlike a continental. It is just the same hereabouts with all day breakfasts.
Thanks, I posted after midnight, by my clock, but blog must be set on summer time or ?.

Now this is an honest man--right out of the box!

Oh, yes, I remember it well...
I still burp those beans ;-)

Looks very yummy.

Happy Theme Day!

I guess this is very typical. Actually I have not had bake beans for a long time...

Baked beans always reminds me of canned food.

I like the occasional blow-out full slap-up breakfast. But I've never got on well with baked beans, so leave them. Prefer some nice mushrooms and grilled tomato!

Now this was a creative idea...nice job.

This is also what you can order when you eat out for breakfast at most establishments in Australia. It is usually called "The Lot" on the menu.

Hotels in Rabaul also serve bacon and eggs but the village people do not eat this. They eat food high in caborhydrate as in rice, taro or sweet potato and banana to get them thru the day - they don't eat lunch usually.

You forgot the kippers...!

R&R said...

Wow, all that for only three pounds! Too bad the exchange rate is so high, what a deal!

We also eat cereal with milk and sometimes bread with banana or jam at home.

First time I've heard of a supermarket serving breakfast. And why not - feed the inner man before shopping.

Porridge! That was an experience the first time I had it in the late seventies when travelling in UK... Now, it's just an yogurt, except if staying at a hotel...

I don't eat that much breakfast as you can see what I posted on my blog. I almost forgot today was theme day. Nice photo and I enjoyed reading your description.

Backed beans are, to me, the most typical English food possible. I love them actually.

But looking at what they serve in this place I really wonder how the British don't all die at 40 of a heart attack!!

Victoria said...

Looks wonderful, if a bit greasy. Though I will never understand beans with breakfast!

This brings back great memories of a trip to England. I miss the breakfasts--you've seen what I end up with when left to my own devices. :)

I can't eat the bacon or the beans ... I get an instant headache. But the rest looks yummy.

Kerry-Anne said...

Mmmm... never seen baked beans with breakfast before... I'm not big on beans, but nutrition-wise that's a pretty good idea (lots of protein for breakfast!).

Marie said...

I tend to think like Eric..... I would love to eat that type of breakfast but I wonder how I would spend the rest of the day afterwards. :-)

I have finally understood how to register to participate in the theme of the month......

Breakfast is my favorite meal to eat out, so I adore places with all day breakfast. Like you two, it's good to split one. Your list was different last night and today I see you do us a favor of culling out off topic posts, as well. There are quite a few folks who signed up and forgot or were away. The breakfasts that are there around the world are appetizing, though, eh?

There are a handful of restaurant chains that are associated with local department stores and they have breakfast specials until 11 or so. My favorite is one with three types of small breads/buns, a small (1 dl) glass of juice, a cup of coffee and jams and butter. I usually eat just one piece of bread, and the save the other two for later.

Read your comments on microwave scambled eggs. Here's my methos:

Forget about any special containers, all you need is an open thick plastic bowl.

Crack eggs into bowl, add a splash of milk (full cream is best) and using a fork, scamble it all around.

Place on high in MW for about 20 secs, take it out and restir....repeat every 10-15 secs or so til it reaches the consistency you want. You can get it thru timing experience to an exactly perfect creamy, firm consistency!

Taking it out and restirring is the key. Otherwise it rises a bit like a souffle, traps the runny stuff underneath and I guess could lead to an explosion!

A typical Guatemalan breakfast could consist of only black beans and eggs. So I was surprised to see beans in your breakfast. I didn't expect it.

AntiguaDailyPhoto.Com said...

I copy your list of CDP because you are always so thorough and I just realized your list does not include La Antigua Guatemala Daily Photo. Murphy's law I guess.

Looking at 'traditional breakfast', I thought it was served at Sainsbury's given its font and colour. Thank you for the general explanation on typical British breakfast.

BundaWAH said...

You are very detail person. Look how you put the participants 1 by 1 "manually" (not by the code provided)

Z said...

As usual, thank you for your very hard work! I've copied your list over onto my blog, I hope that's okay with you.

I can't really face a fried meal for breakfast. I prefer corn flakes, or porridge if it's a cold morning.

Irina said...

Sorry about being a liitle late with this comment, but I assure you I did it as soon as I could.

So traditional English breakfast looks quite plentiful. Do people really eat all of it? It definetely would be too much for me.

Gerald, I don't know how you find time to be so meticulous about the list of participants on theme days, but I think you know by now that the only reason I could not post for this theme was because I had been evacuated in an emergency because of the fire. I had registered and wondered why I did not appear in the lists.

Gerald (SK14) said...

Hi Pamela.

Yes it is quite time consuming compling the permalinks and I couldn't do it without having a good broadband connection. I don't think I'm going to be doing it next month!

Tenerife does not appear to have been registered for this month's theme which is why no-one listed you.

I've just taken a look at the sites that were registered but failed to show: 4 appear to have died as their last posts are dated July. 2 posted on the theme but after my cut-off point. 1 posted on the 3rd with an apology for lateness. 2 reported having problems on the day and apologised for missing the theme. 4 didn't post on the day; have posted regularly since but not apologised nor explained their reason for missing the theme.
