The George closed

When I posted a photograph of The George last October, Kaz said
Now that's what I call a proper pub. Doors, windows and a Robinson's sign.

The windows are amazing. Must be a popular place.
Alas, here is how it looked a couple of months ago, being converted into a private house.

Since then the old windows have been taken out, presumably to be replaced by plastic double-glazed units.

As yet its old clock is still hung outside as can be seen on Hyde DP Xtra.

At least it's found a new lease of life other than becoming a Tescos or being knocked down.

I only ever visited the George once for a Christening party - it's a shame it's gone though. Anyone know how old it was?

Gutted... I've heard it might be flats Gerald... This was a great pub with a cracking reputation as one time.

It is rather sad to see the George closed. While change is inevitable, change is also not always to the good. At least the building has been preserved.
