Neighbours Week: 2 Stockport
This week we are visiting our five nearest neighbours.
South-West of Hyde is Stockport and this is Stockport Town Hall. Most parts of Hyde were historically part of Stockport parish, and Hyde still has a Stockport postcode.
Close to the Town Hall is this old signpost on the A6 showing the mileage to London and Carlise down to the nearest half mile.

Wow, what an impressive building! That's what a town hall should look like!
Love the sign, too.
Very stately building and good snaps! But I like the distance/direction sign! Different than flat, green distance signs we have here.
Great old building even the roadsign is a work of art.
Wonderful building and perfect shot!

How interesting that Hyde used to be a part of something bigger. Here we are amalgamating so that all the small villages are becoming towns and cities.
it's a grand building that looks like it has been around a while.
By coincidence I was in Stockport yesterday. Not by choice.
I think the Town Hall was used in Rumpole of the Bailey.
Hope they don't take that road sign down - I love it.
Excellently done Gerald...That sign is a classic... I look forward to the next instalment.
What an ornate tower! That is a very impressive building.
It seems summer has finally arrived in the UK...
Very interesting - history and all. As a foreigner I feel proud that I have been in a least four of the places named on the sign. I leave it to you to guess which ones.
I've traveled the A6 a good many times in days gone by! I think I've visited your blog a couple of times. Your name sounds familiar. My husband and I visited Cheshire several times when we were 'courting'.
Those old sign posts bring back memories too.
Sorry, that was meant to be Chester.
That's why for me, Gee Cross, Hyde will always be Cheshire and not awful Tameside!!!!!!
I like the old sign, looks like the ones you see in Heartbeat!
