Knott Fold Bridge

Another bridge crossing the former Godley to Apethorn railway line, now part of the TransPennine Trail.

A footbridge only, it links Knott Fold with Cheetham Fold; seen here looking West towards Apethorn.

This is a closer view of the brickwork from the other direction.

This is in the area I grew up Gerald... I then lived on Cheetham Fold, and our house backed onto these train lines. I have hung over that bridge and waved at the engine drivers off steam trains and got covered in the soot from the funnel. This line was mostly a goods line, but now and then passenger trains came by.. I think it was at the time 'wakes weeks'.

What is a fold? The number of strange names for things English is unending.

The brick work is phenomonal. I love the bridge. They don't make them like that anymore, do they? How old is the bridge? Very interesting photo.

Are you encroaching on my bridge posts? Interesting to read OWT'S comments regards his childhood home whilst viewing the images That certainly don't make them like this anymore. A pity.
