This large tombstone in the graveyard of Hyde Chapel predates the
current building, built in 1846.
It is present in a picture of the
1767 chapel. Its position and that of the tree is what enables historians to map out the whereabouts of the previous building.

I image that the deceased had been a person of some note, judging by the size of the tombstone.
