Skywatch: Joel Lane on a Quiet Day

This is Joel Lane on a quiet day with a nice blue sky, and the Grapes Hotel still decked with scaffolding.

It wasn't quiet last Sunday when the Adamson Band led the 2008 Gee Cross Welldressing Ceremony.

They marched up to Slateacre Well and then proceeded down Joel Lane.

More about the history of the ceremony can be found on the Tameside Local History Forum website.

I have also published some photographs of the 2006 Well Dressing.

To view different skys around the world visit Skywatch Friday.

I like both the pictures.
I remember, when I was in London, the bands playing in the parks.

Why is the scaffolding up? (Just wondering,) The sky and street look welcoming. I think I'd like to spend some time there.

I really enjoy looking at English street scenes, whatever the sky may have to offer that day. Nice Sky Watch.

Great sky and I hope they are redoing the hotel.

A superb post! I love the band.

How festive, Gerald! The town I grew up in use to have ceremonies & parades for practically everything. The only time I hear a band now is on TV or the occasional sports event.

Thanks Gerald, but I'm not sure what's being done to modernize the building. I must be missing something here. ;-)

Great photo of the empty street scene.

Great video and music.

That crowd following the band was pretty impressive too.

Nice quiet streets to stroll along, then perhaps a pint at the Grapes Hotel, as long as it's still open. And as long as that band doesn't appear again!

Looking peaceful now, I enjoyed the band pictures last week.

sky and scaffolding area photographers friend. I like this beacuse it's a very real, as it is shot at that moment. Why are so many British pubs called the grapes? Anone know.

Ps. I see you devised the sidebar on the ABC blog. Excellent idea, well done.

Lovely photo for SWF. Love the long alley there but it looked deserted. Nice video of the band marching past. I always love watching a parade. Have a nice weekend.

It was nice to join the march, thanks for the video. When I look at the comments now, one after another there are blogs I've never heard of, I soon got out of date!

First, my apologies for a bit of cut and paste commenting. I have been doing the rounds via Bloglines and looking at all the pictures from my favourite photo blogs, but haven’t been leaving comments. Generally, I try to comment as much as I can (I know how good it is for ‘morale’ to know that someone is out there appreciating them), but after the birth of my second son, I am a bit knackered to think up something witty and insightful on the hop. Thus the resort to Control+C and Control+P!

The photo does say 'quiet day'. Samantha Brown who does a travel show in the states said on one episode that she'd give us a tip --invest in scaffolding! She said it's all over Europe in practically every town she visited.
