Above the florists

I recently noticed this frieze on the gable end of the florists at the corner of Reynold Street and Market Street.

'Frieze' is a new word for me. I had to look it up in the dictionary.
But I still could not quite figure out which one it is in the pic.
Is it the rectangular part with the design in it? Thanks.

There's such beauty in the little things, isn't there? Sometimes I think that the modern structures are missing so much by being all glass and steel. . . .Out of curiosity, how old is the florist's buildling?

Seems rather strange having that design on such an ordinary looking building, and in such an odd place too. Like the old street name sign.

Nice find. I love old brick buildings (of which there are few down here!).

A detail and a dull wall deserves to be watch.

Gearald, I am wondering if this Frieze was not added at a later date, and is not original with this bulding. By looking at the Brickwork I can see that the gable end as been renewed and the older hand made bricks reused. These coures of much newer brick showing along the gable, over the windows and on the corner. This shop used to to be a fish mongers I'm sure.. it smelt nothing like a florists then.
