Is clamping what we call the boot here? Where something is attached to one front wheel which prevents the car from moving?

At least this one is very clearly marked. By the way it is not ilegal to remove a clamp, as long as the evidance of damage to the clamp disapears.
wow...they actually had to increase the fine?? £50 would have been enough of a deterrent to me!
