Up and Running
Some time ago I was asked if Ron Hill's Sports Shop was still Up and Running.
Ron Hill was the first ever Britain to win the Boston Marathon, which he did in 2hrs 10mins 30secs in 1970. He also struck gold at the Commonwealth Games recording a time of 2hrs 9mins 28secs.
There are now some two dozen franchised shops across the country and a thriving online business.
His old shop on Market Street is across the road from Kongs.
According to an anonymous comment, the shop is no longer owned by Ron Hill and is not part of the franchised company.

Glad to hear an former Olympian can parlay his talent and fame into a successful business.
I realized not every country is as supportive of its athletes after the fame and glory are gone.
Some of the details in this article are factually incorrect. This shop is no longer owned by Ron Hill. Also the chain of a couple of dozen shops, incidentally in the same name (Up & Running), are not part of this company.
Today the shop is owned by running specialist chain Sweatshop, which will more than likely change the shop signage in the near future.
Catchy title for the store.
Ron Hill is a longtime member of Clayton Le Moors Harriers and runs and races regularly, these days in the 65years category. The last race result I have to hand for Ron is a 5k race in Salford on 5th May 2007 when he finished 113th out of 149 runners in a time of 24mins 35secs. In fact Clayton won the V65 team-prize in this race with R Lawson (80th) clocking 21mins 39secs followed by L Jackson (110th) in 24mins 27secs and then 3rd team-counter Ron Hill. It's not known if any other teams managed to muster 3 over-65 runners. For the record the race winner was I Grime of Newham & Essex in a time of 15mins 18secs.
Nice photos you have .
Keep posting.
Cheers mate
So at over 65 Ron is still up and running.
Not wanting to be quoted on this but I'm sure one of Ron's Son's runs the shop or did?
