I bet that building is expensive to heat and high upkeep costs
Yes it does refer to the political party and whilst I don't know for certain since I've never been in there, I imagine only a small percentage of the members will be politically active. It is essentially a social club.
Surprised it's not festooned with tinsel and turkey. Bet it was inside and there was a grand old party!
