Alcohol free zone
In order to combat the excesses of violence and crime caused by binge-drinkers, many of the UK's towns and cities have created alcohol-free zones where it is an offence to be seen drinking in public.
These signs are outside the Clarendon Square Shopping Centre.

Great zone!! Here in Barcelona it's alzo necessary. I wish you a wonderful 2007!!
Gretings from a peruvian in Barcelona
There are hundreds of dry counties across the United States, mostly in the South and Mid-West (and the Mormon state of Utah!).
The studies show however that county-level prohibition is not necessarily effective in improving highway safety:-(
Yup, good effort from the gov. i think we wont see that kind of signs here anytime soon.
So I don't suppose you get many trendy pavement cafe bars in Clarenden Square then?
We have "blue laws" here (but not in NYC) where town businesses are closed on Sunday. I remember when I was in college in a blue law township, we had to do a beer run on Saturday evening before the stores close. :-)
Its a shame that it has come to this. There is an area in Vancouver where I wont be surprized if similar type signs go up there!
One can post all the signs and rules but if people don't obey them and police themselves its all for nothing.
Stay safe and have a wonderful New Years.
So you drink outside of this zone and then it's ok to enter...
we have Drug Free Zones (signs) near to schools, as you can guess, the kids go somewhere else
