It was used as part of Mottram School up to about 1947. At that time the school was for all ages up to about 14 or 15. So this was used for the senior pupils while the juniors and infants were taught at the school in Church Brow. The more modern grammar school building behind,(now the home of Mottram School) was then out of use. After 1947 the seniors went to Longdendale Secondary Modern in Hollingworth and the Old Grammar School was then mainly used for community purposes.
