Ridling Lane is an ancient route through the area.
This section is from the end of
Nelson Street leading up to Lumn Road and the now closed
Globe Inn.
The name-plate on the corner clearly reads "Nelson Street" but on street maps it is marked as Travis Street. At the junction of Travis Street and Nelson Street another name-plate also marks it as "Nelson Street" as can be seen on
Streetview.

Local authorities are known for sometimes making mistakes....
Acre Street in Denton, which is quite a long road, at one time had 'Acre Street' on the sign at one end and 'Acres Street' at the other end. And I remember reading some years ago about a signpost somewhere around Manchester pointing to 'Altringham' (as it is pronounced) instead of 'Altrincham'.
