Weekend Reflections:
Queen Adelaide's Vault

In most old pubs the rooms were divided into various classes such as "Public", "Saloon", "Snug" each catering for different types of clientèle.

The front rooms at the Queen Adelaide in Gee Cross were the "Bar Parlour" which probably housed a piano for entertainment and the "Vault" which probably catered for the more hardened regulars.

Reflected in the window of the "Vault" is the door of the house opposite.

You can see the pub itself and the "Bar Parlour" window on Hyde DP Xtra.

Somehow to my eye this is reminiscent of the door of #10.

Vault is new to me, I have heard of the other types of rooms but not vault.

Interesting info and a nice reflection too! :)

I've seen the word "snug" used that way once. James Herriot wrote a story about sitting the snug and overhearing some blow-hard in the bar complaining about what a poor vet, Herriot was.

Fascinating information about your pubs — never heard that before. Is the glass etched? Very elegant, whether yes or no.
