At the corner of Apethorn Lane and Stockport Road can be found the VW dealership of Smith Knight Fay.
Once the site was occupied by a row of cottages and a clock tower. Take a look at them on
Old Hyde.

Memories - I worked there for a spell. It has changed a heck of a lot since it was redeveloped.
I don't recall these at all Gerald, but have seen the odd picture such of this... I believe their was a polic station as well near there... all these rough type in Gee Cross needed policing back then... ha! nothings changed then....
There was a 'Big House' on the corner of Apethorn Lane that was pulled down not that long ago.... that was a 3 story high building but I cannot recall the brickwork looking as nice as that.. My dad was a fireman during the war and the building was used for 'Fire Watch'... the building also housed an Air Raid Siren as well.... I remember it being sounded at certain times to test it... The Siren was moved when the building was pulled down and it can now be seen across the road on a telegraph pole on Rosemary Drive.
And today, they are selling cars!
It's all about business world!
