Long Meadow Passage

Long Meadow Passage leads from the Clarendon Street Car Park to Market Street.

The car park is on the site of the Long Meadow Mill which was demolished in 1900 (yes that date is right - demolishing old mills isn't just a recent phenomena - they were doing it more than a hundred years ago).

As you can see from my post of 8th July 2008 taken from the opposite direction, the building on the left is a hairdressers and tanning studio and the one on the right is a funeral directors.

The CDPB theme today is Passageways. Click here to view thumbnails for all participants.

Calling out: "towards the light, towards the light" - making one wish to run fast.

A wonderful start into the new month and week as well.

It's a felicitous implementation of the theme day. Otherwise I want to subscribe to the greek blogger's view.

Now I'm wondering if the sun tanning salon is creating business for the undertaker across the way :-).
This is such a "heart of Hyde" kind of shot. It seems so natural to be going through this passage. We know your town so well, with you as our tour guide. :-)

What in the UK and NO grafitti?

It is indeed lonely and seems to be almost intimidating because of the lack of light.

This is a classic passageway.

Strange that they tore down a mill for a car park in 1900. Did they really need a place to park cars in 1900?

Kind of makes me wonder if they will be tearing down the mills in Asia in another hundred years.

I like what you've done here.

Nice shortcut? to the parking lot! Too bad the mill got canned though.

Hairdressers and tanning studio next to the funeral directors? There might be economies of scale having those businesses next door to each other...

I like the time comparisons of the photos.

Hey Hyde, can you give me directions on how to join the theme days? It's been awhile since I was on here and you used to comment on my photos sometimes . . .
