Frank's Barber's Shop

Frank's is an old-style barber's on Dowson Road.

If you want a straight hair cut then he's your man.

If you want trendy hair-styling then look elsewhere.

Hyde has quite a large a number of Gents hairdressers catering for all different tastes and there's even one or two "unisex" salons.

On average it seems women pay around five times more than men each time they visit their hairdesser and make four times as many visits in the same period as men.

What an interesting entry of yours. There are streets over here in Athens, where there are four or five hairdressing shops within a distance of two miles...
A wonderful Thursday for you.

Looks like a well-lit and inviting neighborhhod spot. Love the barber pole right on the door. Very practical. :)

When my two sons were about 10 and 12, my father, visiting from out of town, took them to the stylist where they got their hair cut. My father had always gone to a traditional barber shop. He inquired about the price of a haircut, and when he heard what the stylist charged, he said he would go to a barber shop.

My son explained to the hairdresser, "My granddad grew up during the depression."

I like the red and white barber pole on the door too! This place looks very welcoming.

Looks just like the area near the main road by where my parents live. I don't go to the hairdressers. I cut my own....

Sounds like my kind of place. I have given up on setting any new trends.

Nice building with the bay window. EVen had you not said it was a barber shop, you could guess it was with the "barber's pole" in red and white. I notice too there is one outside the building up the top which has lost its stripes.
I have given you a Happy 101 Award, you may like to check my blog.

Hi Gerald. Yet another fond memory from my formative years in Hyde. I am quite shocked that Frank is still alive and kicking, would have thought he would have retired by now. Have many memories of going to Franks, - the umbrellas that he used to sell and repair, and the pictures on the wall of several blokes with seventies style big hair. I seem to recall that he used to cut hair with a fag in his mouth and he always had one of his regulars in there to talk about footbal or weather. That would have been thirty - thirty five years ago at least. Good to know that at least some things in Hyde havn't changed!

Longer hair and windy days make for more visits to get haircut for women. I get mine cut once every four or five weeks.
