Sunset over Stockport Road (Post #1000)

Our contribution to Skywatch Friday this week is a sunset over Stockport Road looking across the Diamond Row Open Space towards King Edward Avenue.

The spire of Hyde Chapel is clearly visible on the left.

I apologise to regular readers for the necessity of emblazoning a message on the photograph.

It appears the rip-off site for whom the message was intended has now been closed down, but these things have a habit of re-appearing so I thought I'd still post this anyway.

This is Hyde Daily Photo's 1000th post.

Although nothing major is going to change here in the immediate future, I am considering a few tweaks. From now on I may decide
  • not to publish every single day.
  • to publish two or three complementary photographs together rather than a singleton.
  • to spread a series of pictures over consecutive days.
  • to publish a few more experimental compositions.
  • to find a new template.

Such a pity to use these methods to avoid being ripped off one's photos. It happens every now and then that somebody wants to use one of my photos . I always allow him or her to do so if asked. Of course it depends which photos are borrowed.

A pity about the rip-offs - give a hoot if they continue or if you have heard that it has happened to anyone else in the "crowd".

Congratulations with No. 1000! Impressive. Why not try some experiments?

To clarify - this wasn't a simple case of someone "borrowing" a photo without permission - such cases can usually be dealt with non-draconianly - but a site that was ripping complete posts not only from Hyde DP but several other blogs including Seattle, London, Rotterdam and Sydney DPs.

I'd prefer not to expand publicly on the details of how they were operating.

Best wishes for the new year and your 1000th picture. I'm about 150 behind!
I suppose in a way it's good to be copied, as they obviously think your photos are worthy of being bootlegged. Legally wrong of course.
enjoy playing with your photos, have a look at Paintbox Pictures, you might get some inspiration.

Sorry to hear about the piracy on the high seas. I bet they have never heard of the law of Karma.
Good luck with rectifying the situation.

Nice photo. Sorry it was marred by the message or had to be.

There are a lot of sites that get our photos and material because of the RSS feeds. The feeds put it out there and we all subscribe to them. Some people use them on their own sites. I don't agree with them doing that but the only way to stop it is to turn off the RSS feeds.

Firstly before I rant the image is divine. Pastel sunsets and silhouettes are you know a penchant of mine. As for the idiots who persist in ripping not just images now but whole posts this is just no on and as I have stated on the forum we need at act as one on this to put an end to it. To clarify it is theft as simple as that. Congratulations on 1000th. Tires me to think about it.
Look forward to the changes whatever shape they take.

Congrats on #1000 and welcome to the club! ;)

Interesting to read about the potential tweaks you are considering. I have from day one been confused by the fact that the community publicly establishes a set of strict rules which are not by any means enforced and consequently ignored by many. (We've tried to follow the rules to the letter. So far.)

Unless otherwise stated, all photographs on this site are copyright © 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 Gerald England.

In most cases, clicking on the photograph will reveal a larger-sized image.
