L S Lowry
Across the road from The Junction in Mottram sits L S Lowry on his bench.
L S Lowry, lived in Mottram from 1948 until his death in 1976.
There is another version of this picture on my photoblog Sithenah.
Local duo Brian & Michael created a new audience for Lowry when they recorded their One Hit Wonder Matchstalk Men & Matchstalk Cats & Dogs. You can hear them talking about it on Old Hyde

L.S. Lowrey painted a number of pictures of South Shields when he was a regular visitor to Sunderland!
Great work on your blog today and a very appropriate picture.
I've just racked up two years at South Shields Daily Photo and I hope to be passing here in two years time to compliment you again! Keep up the good work!
Thanks to everyone who has passed by and left a comment or some encouragement, it makes it all worthwhile.

I like both versions of this sculpture. The detail is simple but very real (the tie) on the statue!
Aha! Just like the one of Cary Grant proposed for Bristol which was never realised!
I like this statue, although it does remind me a bit of Eddie Wearing!
We don't have that many statues in Nottingham, although we are meant to be getting a bust of Brian Clough shortly.
This is fabulous. I love Lowry. Forgive my ignorance but is Mottram near to Hyde or perhaps part of it? I realise your local duo created the song which was great fun.
I love that type of "street art" which is of course a type of homage paid to famous people. We don't have a lot of statues like that in France, that's a shame.
I like some of Lowrie's work, but I must say I tend to find these 'naturalistic' statues a bit creepy. Brixton train station has several standing there on the platforms, I always thought I might find them a bit unnerving if I was waiting for a train there!
Norman Wisdom and George Formby sit in Douglas. I remebered you mentions the Lowry and Hyde connection before.
That song is back inmy head again now.
Nice shot.
I do like this sculpture. . .I'm rather partial to this kind and was amazed at the number similar that I found in Europe both times I was there recently.
How are you doing, Gerald?
