Central Buildings 1899

These buildings on Corporation Street are directly opposite the side of the Town Hall and the new hanging baskets.

Once they housed a couple of insurance offices, but now you'll find a solicitors and a hairdressers.

Hi Gerald, really nice buildings, any idea what the JH stands for??

dick - it does give that impression - it is just the persepective of the shot though - I may show another picture from a different angle sometime.

imac - what JH? - yet another optical illusion (2 in one pic? - must be record) If you look at the full sized pic I see what you mean - it is actually just the way the bricks are laid - compare it with ones at the top left - the ones on the top right, because the shadows, do look as if they are spelling JH.

I love this building type. The brickwork is often astonishing.

It's too bad that you rarely see new buildings with this level of brick detailing these days!

This brickwork alway reminds me of old primary schools, so fond memories.Very evocative photograph.

Thanks for the inclusion in the "Around The World"blog. My daily photo blog will behave, but P.H. blog I can't vouch for.

Handsome building and windows, Gerald. Nice photo! Is the roof flat behind the points?
