View from the top deck

A few days ago Keropokman in Singapore posted a picture of a double-deck bus and asked if others still rode on the top deck of a bus.

This is the view from the top deck of a bus leaving Hyde Bus Station.

Ah.. They look almost the same!

They are also plastered with lots of advertisements, just like the ones in Singapore!

Looks like something has run into the railings.

I'm terrified of double-decker buses (we have plenty of them still - not only the touristy ones, but also for everyday commuter use) - I won't ride on one, and I don't drive next to one either if I can avoid it. They just don't look or feel safe!

In the bad old days, we used to smoke on the top desk of the bus, which meant there was no view because you couldn't se through the fog.

I can also report that the top deck of a bus is the single most significant factor in my avoiding hard drugs. Aged around 10, I was right in the back of the (routemaster) bus when a junkie in a really bad way was trying to shoot up in the seat in front. That put me off, big time.

Straight down the crooked path. I have great respect for the city bus drivers. A pretty strreet scene

Photos of traffic remind me of the fact that Britain persists with driving on the left side of the road. Is there any national debate about this? We switched to driving on the right in 1967 after quite a lot of debate and uncertainty.

I see the rails on that bottom corner of Market Street still take a beating

We have double decker busses in Mumbai (yes, thanks to the British) and it's fun to ride the upper deck (unless you're pregnant or have heart trouble!) I have seen one tourist double decker bus in Kuwait. The place in your pic looks very nice.

They are a pain when the lower deck is full and at the end of your journey - you have to try and walk down the steps to get off at your stop as the bus is still moving!

I used to get the 204 & sometimes the 201 buses in Hyde. Haven't done in a long time!
