Unlike the signals by the pedestrian crossing and the distinctive lamp posts, it serves no useful purpose at all.

And the others were out fixing the plumbing...!
Drove past Hyde the other day on the way to Everton in S. Yorks. Thought of lurking around, waiting for someone with a camera to pass and then pounce, but it was chucking it down at the time and I thought better of the idea.
