Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester
As I'm away for a while, Pamela from Tenerife is posting a series of photographs from the environs of Hyde rather than the town itself.
The gardens in the centre of Manchester have been done away with in recent years and replaced by cooling fountains. Below shows how it looked in 1998.

I like both, for different reasons. I can imagine why they have replaced a labour intensive garden with lawns that need cutting, but surely, there is something wrong with taking away the trees when the planet needs them.
When I worked in the city we used to take our lunch to the gardens.
The new set out is OK on a hot day, but most of the time it is cold and gloomy as it doesn't get much sun.
I work in Manchester and when you walk past in the early evening and late evening its full of tramps, drunks and people that you wouldnt want to bump into on a dark night. At least the old gardens where nice to look at, the new ones look like a wasteland full of yobs.
