Brand New Benches

Last week I came across two brand new benches and a tree at the corner of Market Street and Union Street.

They are just across the road from the Cheshire Cheese and handy for watching the queues at the traffic lights.

As you can tell from this close-up, they are made of metal and will therefore be rather cold to sit upon. The rain had stopped a few hours previously but it was still wet. I've heard some folk have taken to carrying a small towel in their shopping bags for just such an occasion.

A much older bench features today on Ackworth born, gone West as my contribution to ABC Wednesday.

Highly relevant for some of our Internet-friends - and for the passer-bys. Good enough to sit on.

OH Gosh! I won`t sit `cause I haven`t got my towel in the purse. It`s really a shame! :-( your friend Léia

The familiar sight of a sprinkling of rain on a bench. Still somehow better than morning dew which looks pretty but is lethal for a soaking.

Although a nice design they aren't very practical!

Nice shot Gerald, but you cant beat a good ol wooden seat with moss growing on it.

They may be cold and wet but they actually look quite comfy! Attractive too!

We could never have metal benches here because in the summer they would be too hot to sit on even in the shade!

Bet they'll be very comfortable if you should happen to have a hot summer.

I do like the look of these benches but they remind me of something and I can't quite think what. It'll probably come to me as soon as I hit publish.

Hmmm... I bet it would difficult to sit on that on cold days. But, it's better to have something to sit on than nothing. =)

My "B" entry is posted here and here. Hope you'll take a look as well. Thanks!

I like the contrast of those benches and that naked tree.

This morning, one look at the bottom photo and I know immediately. It's a sandwich toaster. If it could be heated up and the top part put on a hinge, some rather nice giant toasties could be made in there.

That's a great laugh out loud comment from ramblingwoods, who I hope is American and not British :-D

The city began making park like bences several years ago. The top most back support board says, "Welcome to Brookville," and the rest are just boards and they are stuck into preformed cement end pieces. They work and are used but not as often as the city fathers would have thought. The bus that comes into town and picks up people who are going to Dayton, Ohio have bus stops made of acrylic plastic on the sides, top and back. It is clear. The seat inside is made of steel and painted blue. They are used a lot.

I'm still not clear on the piles-subject yet. Dó you get piles from sitting on a cold wet bench? These ones will give you some enormous ones then :-O
Nice design, but not at all practical. What's wrong with wooden seats? I like that they've planted a tree. That makes it look more friendly.

This has a "techie" look but very impractical material. Wood is economically friendly but not long lasting and splinters are not fun. What about "green" recycled plastic benches that are beautifully designed? Great post for the community, Gerald.

Nice. Don't think I would want to sit on cold or raining days.

Now, modern benches in a modern town!

Parts of me puckered at the thought of sitting on frozen metal!

I'm sure summer will see the crowds sitting in their droves though!

Those benches should last forever. Seems like a great idea.
