Captain Clarke's Bridge

Today's CDPB theme is "Bridges".

We don't have any big or spectacular bridges in Hyde. Those that have appeared here previously include the railway viaduct at Godley; the railway bridge on Great Norbury Street complete with a pigeon and with a yellow flower; footbridges over the M67 and over the canal at Raglan Street; the bridge taking the disused railway line over Brookfold Lane, looking up and looking down.

Perhaps the most unusual ones are the roving bridges over the Peak Forest Canal. One is on Manchester Road; the other is known as Captain Clarke's Bridge.

Here is another picture of the latter showing the path as it curves back round to the towpath on the opposite bank.

Over 120 CDPB blogs registered to run with this theme. Below are permalinks to their bridge posts including some to unregistered blogs who also posted on the theme. One blog registered to run the theme posted off-topic. Five registered blogs failed to post before 10pm GMT Dec 2nd. One blog failed to post anything on the 1st but has posted [not a bridge] on the 2nd.

It look like a beautiful old stone bridge.

What is ordinary to some is unusual and interesting to others. We don't see bridges like these where I live so I'm enjoying the pictures.

Lovely old bridge! Are those stone stops meant for horses?

julia said...

Extra special stone work! Must be way past your bedtime yet you are working for us on CDP, all the best!

I'm with dot on this one :) I think this picture is such an interesting one. The angle on this shot is unusual and brilliant.
I like old wom tigley's shot as well!

Lovely choice for the theme. BTW, would you kindly explain what the reasoning behind this permalink thing you do is?

I remember this photo from a previous posting and love it still. Good choice!

Great bridge. It's the first stone bridge I've seen on this tour.

Oh, my! This is not only a bridge, but a clever work of art. I had to stare at it for a while enjoying its finesse.

I must go and visit that bridge when I am in England next may,
because I collect bridges and will add it to my collection.
Oh, I will leave the bridge there and just take a photograph or two, A bridge of that size may be more than my baggage allowance with Zoom Airlines

That is really neat and bends my eyes as they try to figure out what kind of structure this is. Nice post.

Nice capture of the spiral.

This bridge as many memories for me Gerald, I have used it many many times. I would walk this way to school in my teens, I have walked it hand in hand when courting, I have fished from and by it. I have even jumped the canal there where it is narrow. One of the many great little bridges of this area.

these are my favourite bridges

'Roving' bridges. That's a new one for me.

Thanks for doing the permalinks again - much appreciated as always! I didn't get to register with the group this time, but I linked to this page of yours on my post of the day (Villigen bridge).

well your bridges may not be big but they certainly are beautiful, this old curving structure is just stunning! BTW you asked in one of your comments today to someone (can't remember where i saw it) if other people are getting funny pop-ups asking if you want to open or save when you click on a photo, I have also been getting them!

Oh Gerald, a roving bridge. . .that is such a great name for this. It's absolutely charming and I wish I could explore it right now. Gives such a flavor of Hyde for us. Kudos!

Good use of perspective. A long and winding road.

I think we're all becoming bridge enginering experts today. This is pretty special!

Thanks for visiting me in hospital! I feel better already :-)

I'm not sure what they might think about cameras here....if they knew!!! Well, it's fairly normal in the maternity and paedeatric wards any way. I think as long as you ask, people don't mind. (or do as I did and wait til everyone's gone)

Karlis Beinerts said...

That is a very strange looking bridge! You have made it look very outstanding!
P.S. Check this out...You know what I mean :) Is it better now?
Thanks for advise!
