Pumpkins galore

We don't really celebrate Halloween over here and certainly not Thanksgiving but there are a sizeable minority of people who do engage in trick-or-treating, dress up for the occasion or carve pumpkins &c.

I took this photo inside Morrisons earlier this month. Later on I saw that Asda were selling pumpkins at £1 each. Supplies seem to have dried up as I didn't see any in Morrisons last weekend (not that I was especially looking).

There has been a lot of posting of pumpkins on blogs this last month so for all those who haven't yet had their fill of pumpkins, check out this lot and have a happy halloween, thanksgiving or whatever. Just don't come trick-or-treating at my door.

We're not carving a Jack-o-Lantern this year. But that's ok. Nice pumpkins!

Gerald you have spoiled my plans now.... I was going to dress up as 'Uncle Fester' from the Adams Family and come knocking at your door tonight. I've even had my head shaved specially...

No not really, we are lucky the kids around here normally come with their parents and we look forward to seeing the same one again this year. We look at it as a nice friendly way of meeting the youngsters for the area, and most will say hello and smile when they see us. I know certain areas are having trouble with youths, I hope you don't.

Thanks for the link! I really like your pumpkin photo. I think they must be less expensive in the U.K. than here. Great shot!

Gerald, what a lovely surprise to be included in your pumpkin post links. Very kind of you, and fun to look at all the other blog posts featuring the orange orbs ;^). You must have a small expat community of North Americans that the stores cater to. Now I'm curious if pumpkin pie is a common fall/winter desert in your area, or is it also mainly a North American phenomenon. How about pumpkin soup? Best to you!

Hi Kim and everyone else

I don't think there many ex-pat Americans in the area at all. There are certainly a lot of kids having fun with halloween - I think its popularity over here is partly a result of the Harry Potter phenomenon. I think some schools have been taking part in a pumpkin decoration competition.

I don't know of anyone here who makes pumpkin pie or pumpkin soup but then I don't move in such circles so there might be quite a lot.

I had one group of four kids dressed up in hallowen costumes come trick-or-treating earlier this evening and not expecting any more now. I gave them some toffees. I think their parents were hovering in the background.

Here the big event that overshadows Halloween is Guy Fawkes Day or Bonfire Night the 5th November. We've had nightly fireworks since the middle of last week and expect them continue until the end of November!

lori they work out about the equivalent of $2 - $7 depending on size - and these are supermarket prices - is that cheap or expensive?
