Dog waiting patiently on its lead

Last week I showed you the Pet Stop outside Asda where you can leave your dog while you shop. However it wasn't being used. Today's picture is of a dog waiting outside Morrisons.

Here are some more pictures of waiting dogs around the world:

Bath ~~ Buenos Aries ~~ Menorca ~~ Menton ~~ Naples ~~ New York City ~~ St Louis ~~ St Paul ~~ South Shields ~~ Toronto

There are also lots on Jilly's Riviera Dogs site.

Here is a view of the Hyde Seal from the other side and looking across the front of the Town Hall.

Gordon Bennett

When I saw this old Rover parked in the street, I just had to take its picture.

Its bodywork so shines that it reflects the trees and the shop-front across the road.

The Gordon Bennett classic car route is a 104 mile journey through the Irish counties of Carlow, Kildare and Laois.

Footbridge over the M67

This spiral ramp leads up to the footbridge which you can see in this earlier picture of the M67 Junction 3.

I've only used it once. It is probably easier just to take the footpath up to Clarke Way and cross the motorway there.

Poles

Seeming under the traffic lights but actually across the street is the Crown Pole.

Unlike the signals by the pedestrian crossing and the distinctive lamp posts, it serves no useful purpose at all.

Child Safety Week

Normally bikes are not allowed inside the Clarendon Shopping Mall but yesterday, as part of Child Safety Week you could bring them in to be stamped with your postcode.

Rubbish goes in Skips

On yesterday's post someone commented
I see on the side of the green bin, it says "your litter please". I thought 'litter' was an american term, i am surprized to see it there. What ever happened to plain old 'rubbish'

Well "litter" is the stuff we throw away on the street, whereas "rubbish" is what we clear out of our homes. If you are doing some building work or renovation then you'll put the rubbish in a skip. I saw this one a few weeks ago near the Queens and was surprised to see it still there a week later.

Kong's Chinese Takeaway

Some time ago, a visitor to the site mentioned Kong's which is a long established Chinese Takeaway. I have shown a glimpse of it on a picture last year, but here is a better look at it.

It is only closed because I took the picture mid-morning before it opened.

Another favourite chippy though, Tommy Chow's remains closed, but happily Bosun's is still going strong.

There is a new sculpture outside the Town Hall to accompany the Chartist Monument

I'll let you read the inscription plate yourself.

After Gee Cross Fete we went along to the Methodist Church where Gee Cross Art Group were holding an exhibition.

Horse on Mottram Old Road

On our way to Gee Cross Fete we met a horse trotting towards us along Mottram Old Road.

Despite the heavy rain in previous days, the ground held up well and some sun appeared for a time. I may post a few photos from the fete here at a later date.

Meantime you can view an album of 25 photographs at Gee Cross Fete 2007.

New Tree

You may remember the tree uprooted in the January storms that also destroyed the local scout hut.

Well now it has been replaced by a new tree.

Prima Dopo

When I showed you this sculpture in April 2006, the premises housed a pizzeria.

This is a back view of the statue and the premises on Milk Street are now a wine bar called Prima Dopa.

Palm Trees & Kwik Save

These palm trees outside the Town Hall are probably not as exotic as the ones Isabella posted on Naples DP yesterday.

Meanwhile, across the road, Hyde Kwik Save is one of 79 branches [a third of their stores] recently closed by the ailing supermarket firm. Current news is that 20 of the closed stores will be re-opening. With local competition from Asda and Morrisons, I doubt this will be one of those.

Nevertheless the building occupies a prime site in the centre of town. Originally it was home to the Hyde Equitable Cooperative Society

Chimney close-up

You've seen this chimney before. It stands behind the ABC Wax factory.

This close-up of the top was taken from Morrison's cafe as was an earlier picture of their millpond.

Lingerie Bliss

Remember the Valentine's Day picture of Frilly Milly's.

Well I don't know if it has new owners, but the business has a new name. It still offers a bra-measuring service and now has a website

St Thomas the Apostle (3)

I've shown you the rear of St Thomas the Apostle Church from Tinker's Lane and the front on Lumn Road.

Here we have a close-up of the bell tower at the side on Leigh Street.

No parking for untaxed vehicles

I saw this new sign a week ago. It is on the edge of town and I've never noticed anything much parked here, but I did read somewhere that there was going to be a clampdown on illegal parking, so perhaps it is part of that initiative.

Roofer

The man seen here was working on the roof of a row of shops.

The premises underneath were empty for about eighteen months. Since then a pet-shop has moved in. Previously it had been a computer shop but the less said about that the better.

Muhammadiyah House of Worship

This house on Ridling Lane is now a centre for Muslim teaching.

According to their website
The Grand Master of the Tareeq, Syiduna Abdul Azeez Dabbaagh (rhu) lived and died in the blessed city of Fez, Morocco (Maghrib). He had Illuminated himself with Quran and Sunnah. He was a complete embodiment of Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (saw). His method of Self-Purification is unique in the sense that the wayfarer becomes close to Allah the Exalted day by day of which he himself witnesses. The individual is not required to abandon lawful activities of this life.

It is currently taught by the present Master of the Tareeq, Hazrat Ahmad Dabbaagh (db). He is the spiritual heir and the representative of Syiduna Abdul Azeez Dabbaagh (rhu). His blessed guidance and teachings is illuminating the heart and soul of those who are under his supervision. Green Bus

This was taken a few week ago. The notice states the bus belongs to Speedwells. My draft text for this post was:
It isn't their usual livery so I'm suspecting it is newly acquired vehicle. Why it was parked here, I don't know. Perhaps the driver was out testing the timings on a new route.
but I've since seen it in service on the 341 route.

Across the road is The Queens and through the back windows you can make out the sign for the Willow Wood Hospice Shop.

Millpond

This millpond lies within the grounds of the ABC Wax factories.

The view is taken from the restaurant inside Morrison's supermarket. The big lamp in the foreground which looks almost as tall as the factory chimney belongs to the M67 motorway. My photoshopping skills aren't good enough to remove it so I've left it be.

View from my Bedroom Window

The June theme is a view from your bedroom window.

Well I first showed you the view from my bedroom on August 5th 2006. A month later I showed you the rain. In October you saw them emptying the wheelie-bin. In November we looked out at the sunset and later we homed in on a crow by my neighbour's chimney pots. In January we watched as a car struggled to climb the hill in the snow.In March we saw the storm clouds gather. Here now is the large tree in my neighbour's garden.

The following blogs have registered to run with the theme this month. As I am busy today with launching the new site Around the World with Daily Photoblogs Old & New, I won't be linking to the permalinks for today as I have done in previous months.
